Jeremy Lithgow MW, Head of Wine at Amathus Drinks, has joined the judging panel for the 2027 London Wine Competition. He brings extensive experience across wine buying, specialist retail, fine wine, trade sales, distribution and winery operations in both the United Kingdom and Australia.
Jeremy began his wine career in UK retail, working with Bottoms Up, Wine Rack and La Réserve before spending five years across wineries, retail and distribution in Australia. After returning to the UK, he managed the prestigious wine department at Harrods and later worked in trade sales at Charles Taylor Wines before joining Amathus Drinks.
As Head of Wine at Amathus, Jeremy oversees the company’s wine-buying strategy and helps develop its diverse direct-import portfolio. When considering a new wine, he looks for quality, value, character, commercial relevance and a clear point of difference. He frequently tastes wines blind before assessing whether the complete proposition—including its price, packaging and presentation—is right for the market.
As a Master of Wine and an experienced commercial buyer, Jeremy will bring both technical tasting expertise and real-world market insight to the 2027 judging panel. His appointment reinforces the London Wine Competition’s commitment to having wines assessed by professionals who understand what consumers, retailers and the on-trade are looking for.
The 2027 London Wine Competition will judge every entry on three key criteria: quality, value and packaging. By entering, producers can place their wines in front of leading buyers and industry experts such as Jeremy Lithgow MW while receiving detailed feedback designed to support their commercial growth.

Amathus Drinks is one of the UK’s leading specialist drinks importers, distributors and retailers, supplying a broad customer base across the on-trade, independent retail and private-client sectors. The company operates multiple retail stores and offers an extensive portfolio covering wine, spirits and other specialist drinks. More than 90% of the wines sold through its stores are sourced through direct-import and exclusive agency relationships, demonstrating the company’s significant influence in selecting and introducing producers to the UK market.
As Head of Wine, Jeremy Lithgow MW plays an important role in shaping this portfolio and identifying wines with the quality, value, presentation and commercial potential to succeed. His buying decisions can open opportunities across Amathus’ retail stores, trade-distribution network and private-client business. Having wines assessed by an active buyer of this calibre gives London Wine Competition entrants valuable exposure to someone with genuine purchasing influence and a clear understanding of what the UK wine market demands.
