Meet the Judges: Nicola D’Ascenzo
An internationally trained sommelier whose journey began in Southern Italy, Nicola evaluates wines through hospitality experience, regional knowledge, and a passion for sharing discovery with guests.
Nicola D’Ascenzo is Assistant Head Sommelier at The London EDITION. His rollercoaster career started during summer breaks in high school, helping the Front of House team in a three-star hotel in Southern Italy.
Later, he moved to Torino in Northern Italy, where he joined as Head Waiter at a small, cozy local restaurant and fell in love with wine. Working in a region that produces some of the best wines in the world was instrumental in building his personal knowledge, strengthening his network, and refining his skills within the hospitality industry.
Who or what inspired your journey into wine?
My personal curiosity and the excitement to share it with other professionals and restaurant guests.
