London Wine Competition Introduces New Special Category Awards

The London Wine Competition is proud to introduce ‘Winery of the Year by Country’ and ‘Winery of the Year by Wine Style’ special category medals:

The London Wine Competition is proud to introduce two new special category medals: ‘Winery of the Year by Country’ and ‘Winery of the Year by Wine Style’. These prestigious awards celebrate wineries excelling in their regions and specific wine styles, recognizing their craftsmanship, innovation, and consistency. Winners gain enhanced visibility, credibility, and marketing opportunities, reinforcing their position as leaders in the global wine industry

Winning these medals enhances a winery’s reputation, strengthens its appeal to trade buyers and consumers, and offers a powerful marketing tool to distinguish its portfolio in a competitive market. This new initiative underscores the competition’s commitment to celebrating diversity and excellence in the world of wine.

Benefits for Wineries:

1) Global Recognition:
Gain international acclaim as the leading winery in your country.

2) Enhanced Marketing Value:
Use the exclusive ‘special category’ medal on packaging, websites, and promotional materials as a badge of honor.

3) Boosted Credibility:
Validate your winery’s excellence and attract the attention of distributors, retailers, and consumers.

4) Exclusive Exposure:
Winners will be featured in the competition’s media campaigns, including website spotlights, press releases, and social media promotions.

5) Networking Opportunities:
Leverage the award to connect with key industry players, including sommeliers, buyers, and media.

How It Works:

1) Eligibility:
All wineries that enter at least 4 wines into the London Wine Competition will automatically be eligible for this medal for the selected countries. You must be a Winery.

2) Judging Process:
- Wineries will be evaluated based on the total number of medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze) won across their entries.
- Average scores across all submitted wines will be considered to ensure consistent quality.
- A producer must have entered a minimum of 4 wines and, a minimum of 90% average score must be achieved between all their entries to qualify.
- A minimum of 2 gold medals must be achieved from the producer
- Following the completion of award judging, LC will shortlist that country's top five performing wineries. Short-listed producers will then be asked to fill out a questionnaire based on innovation, terroir expression, and craftsmanship. Each winery will also be asked how they are making an overall impact for their country of production.
- The judges’ feedback on this questionnaire will be factored in in selecting the final winery by the country. This approach highlights not just numerical scores but also qualitative input, reflecting innovation, consistency, and the overall impact of the winery’s portfolio. Ultimately, the final selection is at the discretion of the judges, leveraging their expertise and collective judgment to ensure the most deserving distilleries are recognized.

3) Country-Based Awards:
One winery from each participating country will be awarded the ‘Winery of the Year by Country’ Medal, recognising it as the best in its region.

4) Additional categories may be included based on trends in the market or consumer preferences. For example, in 2025 we will include the additional category of Low & No Supplier.

5) Announcement:
Winners will be announced at the time of the official results announcement. Winners receive digital and physical medals for use in marketing materials, product packaging, and promotional campaigns.

Countries Included:

France
Italy
Spain
Australia
New Zealand
South Africa
USA
Chile

Other Producer Category Medals Include:

The same qualification criteria will be applied for the above medals across all wines entered in the competition.

A ‘Winery of the Year’ medal will also be given to the winery with the highest average across all entrants. The top four wineries across the competition will be short-listed and the same process will be followed.
