Four New Masters of Wine Inducted at IMW Annual Awards 2023: A Celebration of Excellence

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) celebrated a momentous occasion as it officially welcomed four new Masters of Wine (MW) at Vintners' Hall in London on October 31, 2023.

The ceremony served as a grand celebration of the new MWs and acknowledged their individual excellence in various aspects of the MW examination. Masters of Wine from all corners of the globe congregated in London to extend a warm welcome to the new "MW vintage."

The four distinguished individuals inaugurated as Masters of Wine at Vintners' Hall were:

1. Wojciech Bońkowski MW (Poland)

2. Joshua Grainer MW (United States)

3. Erin Jolley MW (United States)

4. Andrea Lonardi MW (Italy)

Cathy van Zyl MW, Chair of the IMW, emphasized the significance of this event, highlighting the dedication, enthusiasm, and rigorous study required to pass the MW examination. She praised the new MWs for their remarkable achievements and conveyed respect for their dedication to the world of wine.

Julian Gore-Booth, Executive Director of the IMW, expressed the organization's delight in welcoming the four new members to the MW family. He described them as exemplifying the pinnacle of excellence and accomplishment in the wine industry, a source of pride for the IMW.

The ceremony also included the presentation of individual awards to MWs who excelled in particular aspects of the MW examination. Among the recipients, Wojciech Bońkowski MW received four honors, and Joshua Grainer MW received two prestigious awards. The awards presented during the ceremony were as follows:

In addition to celebrating the new Masters of Wine, the ceremony also honored members who reached the remarkable milestone of their 50th year as MW. Hugh Cochrane MW and David Cossart MW, who passed their MW examination in 1973, were joined by close family members to celebrate this significant achievement.

Congratulations to the new Masters of Wine and all the award recipients for their outstanding contributions to the world of wine!
