The tasting panel for the London Wine Competition judge wine for the end consumer - rating the wine in 3 categories: quality, value and packaging. It’s an award that is given to a team of people, acknowledging viticulture, viniculture and creativity (the people involved from soil to sales). This year there were more than 36 countries that entered with 135 different types of grape varietals.
Not far behind the Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc was Quest Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2020 (produced by Du Toitskloof’s Willie Stofberg) with a 90 points rating and was awarded a Gold Medal at the show.
Hendrik Botha otherwise known as ‘Hennie Bul’ planted Sauvignon Blanc vines in the winter of 1985 on his family farm in the Breedekloof Valley. The grapes from this particular vineyard were always handpicked with meticulous care and commitment.
