Australia Makes It Big At The London Wine Competition 2022

Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat scored the top score value of 97 Points and won the Gold Medal and were the top scorers.

The results of the 2022 London Wine Competition are out. After numerous tastings, writing down tasting notes, and pondering, the winners for the 5th edition of the London Wine Competition have been announced. The wines that participate are judged on the criteria of quality, value, and packaging. For a wine to be a medal winner, the wine must score well in all three factors with the most weightage for quality.

London’s top sommeliers and wine buyers came together on March 21-22 at St Mary’s Church in London’s Marylebone. They tasted a vast array of wines and gradually the judging of the London Wine Competition reached its peak. The judging panel consisted of some of the top sommeliers from London’s most prestigious restaurants like Annabel’s Club, the Stafford, and the Dorchester.

It was a fabulous year for Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat from Australia which won the Best Wine by Quality Award along with the Best Wine by Country which makes it a huge achievement for Australia. Not just this, many other wineries from Australia bagged numerous awards at the 2022 London Wine Competition. Here are the Australian wines that won awards.

Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat scored the top score value of 97 Points and won the Gold Medal and were the top scorers. 

Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat is a luscious fortified dessert wine that is vibrant, deep, amber-brown in colour and has a beautiful body with a lifted bouquet. It is matured in old cakes which helps in producing rich and rancio complexity. The qualities of the wine are also reflected in its label with the original artwork of Merilyn Hutton.

COLOUR - Amber-Brown

NOSE: Pronounced aromas of Toffee, raisins, candied fruits, chocolate, mocha and dates. 

PALATE: Generous and flavourful palate with notes of toast, caramel and raisins

FINISH: A complex, long and clean finish with slight hints of toffee and raisin.

ABV: 18% 

SIZE: 375 mL

Richard Dennis, the Sales Director of the Prosecco brand Della Vite, and formerly of Benchmark Drinks, judged the competition for the third year. He mentioned that the key criteria he looks out for when buying wine are its expression. “Wines should have a distinctive character and be memorable,” he says, ‘and that includes the packaging.”
