The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva is made using the traditional appassimento method. It is aged in barrel for a long time, obtaining a unique and immediately recognizable flavour. It showcases the pure expression of the Veronese tradition and centuries-old heritage of The Bertani Family.

This ruby red wine has garnet reflections on the body. The notes of preserved cherry, spices, and dried rose petal add complexity and elegance to this wine. The palate has refreshing warmth and subtlety. It is well-structured and reflects high alcohol content. All in one, it’s a perfect wine, well-balanced by velvety tannins and elegant and refreshing acidity.
The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva is produced from three grape varietals namely Corvina (75%), Rondinella (10%), and Corvinone (15%). These fruits are taken from their estate in Arbizzano di Negrar, located in the Valpolicella Classica Region. It contains 15% alcohol by volume. The winemaker suggests serving this wine at 15-18 C. It suits well with roasts, game, braised and stewed meat, lamb, savory cheese, and Monte Veronese cheese.
The Tenuta Santa Maria di Gaetano Bertani produces wines that offer an authentic expression of their land. The Bertani Family takes scrupulous care of their vineyards using sustainable agricultural methods. Their proficiency comes from centuries of experience and study and leaves no doubt why Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva is positioned as the best wine of Italy at the competition.
Image: Bertani Brothers
The Bertani Brothers were the first in the region to bottle and sell Veronese wines such as Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto, and Soave on a large scale. Combining their deep respect for traditions and love for the land, with the cutting-edge technology, they innovated a lot in the area of production and cultivation. They introduced profound vine growing techniques developed by agronomist Jules Guyot. Guyot method is the planting of vines low-standing, high-density rows, single branch pruning in spring and subsequent green pruning. The Bertani Brothers also made a contribution of their own to the newfound Republic through political work on both the local and national level.
On their win in the London Wine Competition, Mr. Bertani said, "We are honored to receive this important award from London Wine Competition. This gives to our family even more motivation to work in finer detail and passion to express our wine region through indigenous varietals, organic farming and new techniques applied to the traditional methods. The recognition is even more important to us as it comes in a special year in which we celebrate our 90 vintages of Amarone Classico Della Valpolicella. In 1928 our early appassimento later called “Amarone” was born. A wine that is still aging incredibly well and is an amazing experience to taste.
