Nestling on the south side of the river Thames in South Oxfordshire, Brightwell Vineyard was first planted in the late 1980s. Bob and Carol bought the vineyard in 2001 and have taken it forward with new plantings and built a winery. The flinty chalk clay and gravel of the Thames Valley provides ideal grapevine soil, while the vineyard is sheltered by the surrounding hills of the Chilterns, North Downs and Cotswolds. This makes the location one of the warmest and driest areas of the UK in summer. The vineyard is one of the largest in Oxfordshire, covering 6.5 ha (16 acres) and grows ten varieties of grape including Bacchus, Chardonnay, Dornfelder and Pinot Noir.

The wines are made on site in their own winery, which enables environmentally efficient operations. Bob follows a minimum intervention ‘natural’ winemaking style at Brightwell. He is passionate about exploring the potential of English grapes, and produces quality wines that reflect the clean and fresh style of English wine from the English countryside.

Brightwell has become well known for it Red wines that are winning medals in International Competitions.  Tours and tastings are available on most weekends during the summer months.  www.brightwellvineyard.com
