It all starts in 1926 , when Abel Pereira da Fonseca founded Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal to manage the properties he owned in the Bombarral region. He planted the first extreme vineyards (only for wine – without mixed fruit trees), aligned and wired, which was a major innovation in the sector at a time when tractors did not yet exist. The vineyards were divided into plots with each plot planted with a single grape variety — another innovation at the time. Furthermore, he introduced new varieties (to test) their adaptability and planted a plot at Quinta do Sanguinhal where he had more than 30 different varieties and which is still called “experiences” today.
