Château des Milles Anges, owes its name to the locality “Milange”, where one found the convent of the sisters of the Assumption, located next to the site of the new church of Saint-Germain-de-Graves, which was rebuilt in the 19th century in neo-roman style.
Mrs Van Ekris, seduced by the unique panorama bought the vineyard in 1994. The name “Chateau des Mille Anges” is in the memory of the little children who were taught here.
The vineyard of Château des Mille Anges is situated on the right bank of the Garonne River, approximately 30km from Bordeaux city, covers a 25 hectares area at an altitude of 108 meters. Its steep slopes assure natural drainage and South-East to South West exposition allow the vines to benefit from optimal sunshine. The soil is harmonious mixture of gravel, while a clay-limestone subsoil. The mild and oceanic climate of the region with this exceptional terroir allow to obtain outstanding quality of grapes.
The vines have an average age of 20 years, perfectly balanced between the ardour of young vines and the maturity of the older ones. The red wines consist of 65% Merlot, 20 Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.
In the vineyard all work is aimed at the sole purpose to produce the highest quality grapes. Thus, starting with the pruning, the tasks are multifold, working the soil, weeding between the vines, limiting the yields, de-leafing to give the grapes more sunshine exposure; always with full respect of the soil and the environment in order to obtain a wine which worths the name “Mille Anges”.
