Yves Desmaris MS

Master Sommelier and Senior Sommelier at Galvin La Chapelle

Yves Desmaris MS is one of the United Kingdom’s most respected wine professionals, bringing more than three decades of experience in fine dining, wine service, wine buying, and hospitality management. A Master Sommelier since 1992, Yves has built a distinguished career working with some of London’s most acclaimed restaurants and hospitality establishments.

Originally from Lyon, France, Yves spent his formative years in the Rhône Valley before beginning his professional wine journey at the Stafford Hotel in London in 1988. He later became Head Sommelier at The Dorchester, where he earned the prestigious Master Sommelier title. Throughout his career, he has worked alongside some of the hospitality industry's leading names and has overseen wine programs, sommelier training, and restaurant operations at Michelin-starred and award-winning establishments.

Yves has held senior sommelier and wine leadership roles at renowned venues including Gary Rhodes’ Michelin-starred restaurants, Lutyens, The Arts Club Mayfair, Pied à Terre, and the Royal Automobile Club. Today, he serves as Senior Sommelier at Galvin La Chapelle, one of London's most celebrated Michelin-starred restaurants, where he continues to curate exceptional wine experiences for guests.

Known for his deep understanding of wine quality, balance, food pairing, and consumer appeal, Yves combines classical wine education with practical market insight. His judging philosophy values wines that not only demonstrate technical excellence but also connect with consumers and perform successfully in real-world hospitality environments.

As a judge at the London Wine Competition, Yves brings extensive expertise in evaluating wines through the lens of both quality and commercial relevance. His experience as a Master Sommelier, wine buyer, educator, and hospitality professional provides valuable perspectives that help identify wines capable of succeeding in today's competitive global wine market.
