Filippo Carnevale

Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer at Amethyst Dining, London

I am Filippo Carnevale, a sicilian wine geek born in Piazza Armerina, a little city next to the Etna Volcano, an area worldwide known for its mineral driven wines.

I arrived in London at 18 years old started working as a Flair Bartender, the thing I used to love the most, but with time I totally switched my attention and dedication to wines, and it totally changed my life.

My first experience within the wine world started in 2012, being a commis Sommelier in a fine Italian restaurant in the City but quickly moved all the way up to being in 2014 the Head Sommelier of the Buddha Bar London, after passing my WSET level 3.

In the 2016 I started working as a Senior Sommelier at the iconic The Ritz London and I was part of the team who got the very first Michelin Star after more than 100 years of operation.

During the summer 2018 I have been awarded “Best in Class” and Winner of the very first Cava Academy in London. Then I became the Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer of Xier Restaurant, first solo project of Chef Carlo Scotto which after a few months of the opening it was presented on a Michelin Guide 2020. I’m now at Amethyst, as Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer and started my studies for the WSET Diploma.
